Carmel Mountain Vision Care was one of the first optometric practices in the United States to own a wavefront aberrometer. This instrument allows our doctors to comprehensively evaluate how your eyes uniquely focus light in just seconds, without asking you, "Which lens is better, 1 or 2?" Unlike existing technology, wavefront aberrometry measures the visual imperfections, termed "high order aberrations", which were previously too difficult and elusive to measure. High order aberrations can significantly reduce vision, especially at nighttime. Wavefront aberrometry allows our doctors to precisely determine the most appropriate eyeglass and contact lens prescriptions, while also assisting our doctors in diagnosing eye diseases including cataracts and keratoconus at their earliest stages.
For some of our patients, wavefront aberrometry enables our doctors to prescribe special "high definition" corrective lenses. Candidacy for these lenses can only be determined during an eye examination. To learn more, download this technical paper on non-surgical wavefront correction.
