EyePrintPro™ Technology at Carmel Mountain Vision Care in San Diego

Carmel Mountain Vision Care is pleased to announce that we have been selected as one of six Specialty Contact Lens Practices to offer the EyeprintPRO™ prosthetic scleral shell to our patients. The EyePrintPRO™ prosthetic scleral shell offers tremendous hope for patients who suffer from highly irregular corneas.

The EyePrintPRO™ is a prosthetic scleral cover shell which improves vision by creating a new, smooth, refractive surface for the eye. Unlike contact lenses, the EyePrintPRO™ is not constrained to typical fabrication and therefore can match the exact contour of any eye-even in the most difficult conditions where other options have failed. This visionary design even allows corrections for high amounts of astigmatism, as needed.

The problems associated with keratoconus, Pelucid Marginal Degeneration, Ocular Surface Disease, Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and ocular trauma often cause many patients to migrate from one lens failure to another. Patients have found that other lenses often do not offer the comfort they are seeking, or better quality of vision for employment , education and recreational activities in their life.

Successes with this innovative Scleral Design have allowed those that may have tried and failed with the PROSE™ Lens, hybrid designs such as SYNERGEYES™, small rigid lenses and Scleral designs to have more comfort, increased wearing time and better vision.

In many ways the EyePrintPRO™ is similar to a scleral lens. It is made of the same FDA approved oxygen permeable materials and the fit vaults the cornea while gliding on the sclera. There is a long history of the comfort, health and visual benefits of scleral lenses. The difference, however, is in the design process. While scleral lenses are fit through a system of trial and error with prefabricated lenses, the EyePrintPRO™ is made from an impression of the ocular surface, just like a prosthetic eye. Instead of using a series of standardized curvatures as with scleral lenses, the EyePrintPRO™ is generated to exactly match the unique irregularities of the unique eye. Because of the precise nature of the back surface fit, high quality and individualized optics can be placed on the front surface of the device, creating exactly what you need.

This unique advancement in design is a result in visionary thinking combined with the use of current computer aided design and manufacturing. This completely unique prosthetic scleral shell gives allowances in design for Pingueculae, and Pterygia, which are elevations on the sclera or cornea. These elevations and irregularities can affect comfort and wearability of other devices that are based on conventional methods of design and technology.

If you have tried and failed with the PROSE™ Lens design or other lenses, the EyePrintPRO™ Design has the potential to help you see better, and to be able to wear your lenses for longer periods of time.
